A tall, elegant central defender, Faye is passionate about her role as captain of the Arsenal and England Ladies football teams. Faye coaches football to girls in the greater London area for Arsenal FC, is a patron of the Women's Sport Foundation and has worked as a commentator for Sky Sports, Eurosport and the BBC. Here are just a few of the achievements of her career to date...
Faye has won 22 major trophies, winning the 'double', the 'treble' and, this year, the 'quadruple'. She has played in the UEFA Women’s Cup competition five times and this year the Gunners Ladies have become the first British Club side to win UEFA Women's Cup vs Umea IK of Sweden. She has played overseas and this year has helped Ottawa Fury to the 2007 USL W-League Eastern Conference playoffs. Faye was made an MBE for services to sport in the 2007 Queen's New Year's Honours List.
Faye established herself in the England senior team at EURO 2001 in Germany and proudly captained the national team into EURO 2005, staged here in England, with England's three matches receiving a collective attendance of over 70,000 people, including a European record for a Women's match of 29,092 in the tournament's opening game. She is a key presence in the heart of the England back four and relishes her role in the team.
After leading England to the brink of World Cup qualification and Arsenal to the League and Cup double in 2006, Faye suffered the second cruciate ligament injury of her career in pre-season. After a successful operation and strong rehabilitation, Faye returned in Arsenal's historic UEFA Cup Final win before travelling across the pond to star in Ottawa Fury's march to the USL W-League Play offs.
Faye returned to the England squad and captained the team at the World Cup in China. Playing superbly in all four of the Three Lions' matches, including a 'player of the match' performance in the 0-0 draw with world champions Germany, she lead England to a Quarter Final berth vs USA.
